MAUMELLE, Arkansas – Maumelle Animal Services is urging people to check their gear after a venomous snake was found inside a student’s helmet at Maumelle High School in Arkansas.
The student put on the helmet before discovering the snake had taken up residence inside, prompting a response from the agency. No injuries were reported.

“Snakes and other critters can find their way into dark, enclosed spaces — especially helmets, shoes, bags, boxes, and other items that are left outside or sitting undisturbed,” officials said.
Animal services officials say the incident is a reminder that a quick check of outdoor gear before use could prevent a dangerous encounter. Helmets, shoes, gloves, and bags are among the items most likely to attract unwanted guests.
“It only takes a few seconds and could prevent a very scary encounter — or worse,” officials added.
