JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A new report by WalletHub on Tuesday details the hardest-working cities in America. And one city in particular took the top spot for Florida, according to a report by our sister station WKMG in Orlando.
The study examines over 100 of America’s largest cities, ranking them based on the following criteria:

- Direct Work Factors: Includes average workweek hours, employment rate, idle youth, and share of workers with unused vacation time, among other metrics
- Indirect Work Factors: Includes commute times, volunteer hours, average daily leisure time, and the share of workers with multiple jobs, among other metrics
Nationwide, the top three cities ended up being Cheyenne, Wyoming (No.1); Anchorage, Alaska (No. 2); and Washington, D.C. (No. 3).
While the Sunshine State didn’t crack the top 10, the ranking did reveal that Florida’s hardest-working city is Tampa, all the way up at No. 28.
While the Cigar City ranked high in terms of direct work factors, it lagged majorly for the indirect factors — a common theme among all of the Florida entries on this year’s list.
Jacksonville landed in the 58th spot.
On the other end of the spectrum, Hialeah ranked the lowest at No. 76. It managed to take just a few spots from the bottom for indirect factors more specifically.
Meanwhile, the full ranking of Florida cities in this year’s study is as follows:
| Rank | City | Score | Direct Work Factors Rank | Indirect Work Factors Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 28 | Tampa | 68.75 | 15 | 89 |
| 35 | St. Petersburg | 67.40 | 26 | 86 |
