1 dead in Alachua County single-car crash

Troopers: Driver crashes into utility pole tearing off side, rear of car

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old Keystone Heights man died Sunday in a single-car crash on State Road 26 east of Gainesville, the Florida Highway Patrol said. 

Troopers said at about 1:55 a.m., Ramiro Lozano-Gonzalez, 26, of Melrose, Florida, was driving eastbound when he drove off the road and crashed into a utility pole.

The collision tore off the right side of Lozano-Gonzalez’s Pontiac Grand Prix and caused the rear portion of the car the to separate, troopers said. 

Both passengers, Cipriano Lozano-Gonzalez and Christian Lozano-Gonzalez, of Keystone Heights, were thrown from the car, troopers said. 

Cipriano Lozano-Gonzalez died at the scene and Christian Lozano-Gonzalez was taken to UF Shands Hospital in critical condition, troopers said. 

Ramiro Lozano-Gonzalez remained restrained in the car until he was extricated by rescue crews. He suffered minor injuries, troopers said.
