FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. - One man was arrested after a Sunday morning fight in the parking lot of a Fernandina Beach bar escalated into gunfire, authorities said.

Authorities were called to Locals on Sadler Road in response to a report of shots fired shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies learned that a bystander was trying to break up a fight between a man and woman when the man drew a gun and opened fire at the bystander, the Sheriff's Office said.

The bystander told investigators he had stepped in to break up the fight when the gun went off, making him afraid for his life. He said the shooter got into a Chevrolet sedan and drove away. The bystander's story was confirmed by six separate witnesses.

An investigation into the shooting led deputies to a home on Deerwood Drive in Yulee, where 21-year-old Garrett Lionel Gagnon was taken into custody.

Gagnon was booked into the Nassau County jail on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was released Monday morning after posting $50,000 bond.
