Nassau County's Aaron Bean may be considered for CFO position

State senator confirms he's expressed his interest to Gov. Rick Scott

State Sen. Aaron Bean, R-Fernandina Beach, may be considered for the state of Florida's chief financial officer position. 

Bean confirmed to News4Jax Tuesday evening that he spoke with Florida Gov. Rick Scott to express his interest.

He believes he has the experience needed to replace current CFO, Jeff Atwater, who said he's resigning after this session.

"I bring I think a unique background -- a financial, banking, insurance background -- that I think would suit the position well," Bean said by phone. "Gov. Scott has really been focusing, as we all are, on the Legislative session. After the Legislative session, he'll announce the formal process of how he's going to whittle candidates down, and I'm sure there's eventually going to be a handful of candidates that are in that same realm of consideration."

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has been mentioned as a candidate when the governor names a replacement for Atwater. Curry has said only he's committed to his work as mayor.

Bean told News4Jax that he would step aside if Curry wanted the position.
