Georgia COVID-19 cases pass 600K as deaths top 10K

The Georgia Department of Public Health on Wednesday reported 5,671 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19. Of those cases, 53 were reported in the Southeast Georgia counties tracked by News4Jax.

As of Wednesday, a total of 602,796 confirmed cases had been reported by the state Department of Public Health.

The agency on Wednesday reported 70 additional confirmed deaths related to COVID-19, including one in Ware County, bringing the state’s total to 10,035 confirmed deaths since the start of the pandemic.

According to the state Department of Public Health, 5,523,221 tests have been performed in the state, which had a 10.4% positivity rate, as of Wednesday.

Georgia was reporting a total of 111,044 antigen positive cases and 1,130 “probable” deaths on Wednesday. For more on those categories, click here.

On Wednesday, 611 additional hospitalizations were reported, bringing the state’s total to 43,629 since the outbreak began.
