CUMBERLAND ISLAND, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating after a hunter was shot and killed Thursday during a hog hunt on Cumberland Island in Camden County.
According to a DNR spokesman, around 10 a.m. on Thursday, DNR Game Wardens, National Park Service Rangers, and the Camden County Sheriff’s Office responded to Cumberland Island in reference to a hunting incident.

Investigators said a hunter was shot by another hunter while hog hunting.
The victim was transported off the island to a local hospital but did not survive, DNR said.
The GA DNR Critical Incident Reconstruction Team (CIRT) Investigators will lead the investigation at the request of the National Park Service.
DNR said it is still waiting on verification that the family has been notified, so it could not release the victim’s ID yet.
The incident happened during a managed hog hunt on the island, which ran from Jan. 6-8.
