Large drug bust involving FBI yields over 50 arrests across the country, including Glynn County, Texas, New York

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. – A recent drug trafficking operation tied to Glynn County and St. Simons Island led to the arrest of 55 people.

The drug operation called “Operation Powder Island” began in the summer of 2022 after federal agents learned that members of the alleged trafficking operation were traveling to Jacksonville, Miami and Atlanta, Georgia, to pick up drugs to bring back to Southeast Georgia.

Investigators said the drug trafficking organization distributed large amounts of meth, MDMA, fentanyl, cocaine, crack cocaine and marijuana throughout the community.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Atlanta division, 55 of the 56 people indicted in the drug trafficking case were arrested on Wednesday morning and now face various possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance charges.

Some also face firearm charges.

One of the suspects was accused of communicating with a drug supplier in China and arranging to have multiple kilos of drugs shipped to Brunswick.

More than 150 law enforcement officers and federal agents from multiple agencies throughout Georgia and Northeast Florida assisted in the operation.
