Traffic stop for expired registration nets suspect in Washington, D.C., murder, Camden County deputies say

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – A Camden County deputy, recently on routine patrol along I-95, was alerted by a License Plate Reader that an SUV next to him had expired registration, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The traffic stop that followed ended up leading to the arrest of a man with a murder warrant out of Washington, D.C., deputies said.

The man, Jason Vasquez-Pineda, was in the back seat of the SUV when Deputy Cooke conducted the traffic stop.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver and a front seat passenger were also found to have entered the United States illegally.

Vasquez-Pineda was in the U.S. legally, deputies said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection took custody of the driver and front seat passenger, and Vasquez-Pineda was taken to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

He will be extradited to Washington, D.C., to face his charges.
