ST MARYS, Ga. – Mary Lee Clark Elementary School in Camden County was placed on a precautionary lockdown this morning due to nearby law enforcement activity following a traffic stop, according to the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and Camden County Schools.
The sheriff’s office said a deputy was conducting a traffic stop near Colerain Road and St. Marys Road when two of the three people in the vehicle ran from the scene. One person has been apprehended, and deputies are actively searching for the other two, the agency said.

Camden County Schools said the lockdown is precautionary and that the activity “did not originate on our campus.” District officials said students and staff already on campus are secure inside the building.
The district said students who are walking to school and are already in the immediate area will be brought safely inside and remain under lockdown procedures.
School buses for Mary Lee Clark Elementary are being temporarily rerouted to St. Marys Middle School until the area is cleared, officials said.
Parents and others are being asked to avoid the area and not approach the elementary school campus until law enforcement clears the scene. The sheriff’s office said there is no indication at this time of a threat directed toward the school.
Officials said they will provide another update as soon as it is safe to resume normal arrival procedures.
