ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Two teenage brothers are dead and their mother was hospitalized in a shooting in Alachua County on Monday, law enforcement confirmed.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened in a rural part of Hawthorne around 4:30 p.m. The mother, who was said to be 45 years old, was taken to an area hospital in “very critical condition.”
The brothers were said to be ages 14 and 17.
The Sheriff’s Office later said that the shooting appears to be a murder-suicide. Detectives were working to establish a timeline of events that led up to the shooting.
