JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 37-year-old driver was killed, a passenger in her car and the driver of a second car were injured early Thursday in a crash on Interstate 10, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the car left the ramp from I-295 to I-10 at 1:24 a.m., struck a concrete pole in the grassy median, then was hit when it came to rest in the center eastbound travel lane of I-10. Both vehicles were heavily damaged in the second crash. The driver of the first car died. A 7-year-old passenger in her car and the driver of the second car were seriously injured.
News4Jax learned from a family member that the woman who died was the mother of the girl. FHP no longer provides names of crash victims in preliminary crash reports.
All eastbound lanes of I-10 at I-295 were closed until 7 a.m. while troopers investigated and the crash scene was cleared.
