Jacksonville police believe speed was factor

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police said a Ford F-350 with two men inside and someone riding in the bed of the truck rear-ended an SUV on New Kings Road about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. After the collision, the pickup hit the curb and flipped several times, causing the truck’s passenger to be ejected.

The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Neither of the men inside the pickup were injured, nor was the woman driving the Toyota Sequoia.

Traffic homicide Lt. Nassim Mana said speed was a factor in the crash but no charges were filed yet.

All lanes of New Kings Road at Edgewood Avenue were closed most of the night as police investigated the crash.

“It is an unfortunate incident; please keep the victim and his family in your prayers,” Mana said.

This was the 179th traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
