JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a van Tuesday morning on Interstate 95 at Emerson Street, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the van was traveling north on I-95 in the center lane, and the motorcyclist was traveling in front of the van. According to FHP, the motorcycle reduced speed due to surrounding traffic.
Troopers said the van abruptly reduced speed due to a semitruck causing a smoke plume behind the motorcycle. The motorcycle veered right to avoid a collision, but the van collided with the right shoulder and then rear-ended the motorcyclist.
The motorcyclist was identified as a 59-year-old man from Glen St. Mary. The two people who were inside the van were not injured.
