Troopers said the van abruptly reduced speed due to a semitruck causing a smoke plume behind the motorcycle. The motorcycle veered right to avoid a collision, but the van collided with the right shoulder and then rear-ended the motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist was identified as a 59-year-old man from Glen St. Mary. The two people who were inside the van were not injured.
