Civil Rights groups issue travel advisories to Florida based on bills in legislature

Florida advocacy groups have issued a state travel advisory based on controversial bills being pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis this legislative session. On Wednesday, LGBTQ civil rights group Equality Florida and the Florida Immigration Coalition both warned people away from the state.

The news release from Equality Florida states, “ Today, Equality Florida took the extraordinary step of issuing a travel advisory, warning of the risks posed to the health, safety, and freedom of those considering short or long term travel, or relocation to the state.”

This comes just weeks after the Florida NAACP issued a travel advisory to Florida, suggesting that the governor’s policies are impacting people of color. All groups say the governor’s push to eliminate all diversity, equity and inclusion programs at Florida universities.
