2 house fires sparked by fireworks overnight; 3rd fire leaves 1 person critically injured

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two house fires overnight were sparked after used fireworks were left in trash cans near the homes, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

A third fire that was reported just before 2 a.m. on Monday at The Element at River Pointe apartments on Harts Road left one person with critical injuries. The Red Cross is helping three family members displaced by that Northside fire.

JFRD said the cause of the apartment fire is not known, but it did not involve fireworks. A charred stove was seen Monday morning along the sidewalk near the apartment unit.
