Army Corps of Engineers awards over $30M to renourish Duval County beaches

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – The United States Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville awarded a $32.4 million contract in December to support a renourishment project across nearly 10 miles of Duval County beaches.
The Shore Protection Project, which is slated to begin sometime shortly after the new year, will address beach erosion on Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach, extending from the St. Johns River to the Duval to St. Johns County line.
The project includes the construction of a dune and beach berm with sand sourced from a federally administered offshore borrow area, and beach restoration work will include beach tilling, vibration control and monitoring, environmental species monitoring and turbidity monitoring.
All the project funds were provided through the Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies.
