Beauclerc Elementary student arrested after bringing loaded gun to school, accused of making threats

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Beauclerc Elementary School student was arrested after they brought a loaded gun to school and is accused of making harmful threats to another student, according to Duval County Public Schools.

Stepanie Harakal, a parent, said her heart dropped when she received multiple emails about a student carrying a gun at Beauclerc.

“I have two children that go to that school,” Harakal said. “It’s an elementary school and you just feel like you’re in shock. Because you’re just like, ‘wait, what’s going on? What happened?’ You literally feel like your world is just crumbling at that moment.”

The school’s principal called parents on Monday to inform them about confiscating the loaded firearm from the student. According to the DCPS, a student told staff that they saw the individual display the firearm at the school. The report said that in addition to possession, the student is accused of making harmful threats to another student.

Law enforcement was at the school to investigate the incident and the student was arrested. DCPS said in addition to potential criminal charges, it will enforce the appropriate school disciplinary consequences.

DCPS told parents to encourage their children to “say something if they see something” to identify safety concerns.

Harakal said she still feels safe with sending her kids to Beauclerc.

“I know the ladies and the staff at the school and I know if something like this happened, they jumped immediately to action,” Harakal said.

So far this school year there have been six incidents involving guns at Duval County Schools. Five children have been arrested according to News4Jax records.
