Clay County firefighters go door-to-door to add smoke alarms for Middleburg residents

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Clay County Fire Rescue with the American Red Cross went door-to-door on Friday in a Middleburg neighborhood off Atlantis Drive to install smoke alarms.

The community was selected based on historical trends of neighborhoods at risk for home fires.

“In light of recent fatal fires, we want to make sure our community is prepared,” Clay County Fire Rescue Chief Lorin Mock said.

Mock said every minute counts when a fire breaks out, so it’s important families are equipped with life-saving tools.

“You can see how critical a smoke alarm is in quickly alerting everyone to danger, helping to save a life, and reducing injuries,” Mock said.

If you need smoke detectors for your home, visit soundthealarm.org or call 833-244-0724.

If you’re a Jacksonville resident, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department can install a free smoke detector. Call 904-630-CITY for more information.
