JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Keep the umbrella and the weather app handy today — scattered afternoon and early evening storms will pop up as the Atlantic and Gulf sea breezes push inland and collide west of I-95. A few storms could turn strong, bringing wind gusts 40–50 mph, frequent lightning, and heavy downpours.
Some neighborhoods could pick up 3+ inches of rain in a short time, which may lead to localized flooding, especially in inland areas. Storms should fade after sunset, and storm coverage should gradually decrease Monday and into next week.
If you’re heading to the beach, use extra caution: there’s a moderate to high risk of rip currents today, then a moderate risk Monday through Tuesday.
Heat Building Next Week
The bigger story as we move into midweek: heat and humidity ramp up. Afternoon highs will run near 90 degrees at the coast and low to mid 90s inland, with heat index values around 103–107. Heat Advisories may be issued Tuesday through Friday.
