JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Clara White Mission will honor African American veterans with a Flag and Wreath Memorial Service on Veteran’s Day at 4 p.m. at the Pinehurst Cemetery.

Officials said the event will honor Black veterans who served in both World Wars and are interred at Pinehurst Cemetery.
“Many of these veterans served at a time when they faced segregation and discrimination, yet their courage and sacrifice were instrumental in the fight for freedom,” officials said in a release. “Their stories embody resilience and dedication, and the Clara White Mission is proud to highlight their contributions as part of Jacksonville’s rich African American history.”

Ennis Davis of Modern Cities will be the featured guest speaker. He is a noted historian and advocate for the preservation of Black history in Jacksonville.
“Each headstone represents a chapter of resilience and an untold story of those who served with honor despite the challenges they faced,” Davis said while reflecting on the significance of honoring the veterans. “This memorial allows us to acknowledge and celebrate their contributions to our nation.”
Pinehurst Cemetery is located at 3220 Moncrief Road West (Northwest corner of Moncrief Road and Restlawn Drive)
The event will also honor Dr. Eartha M.M. White’s Birthday.
