One of the SUV’s passengers was taken to the hospital in critical condition following the crash, JSO said.
According to police, an elderly couple was driving south on San Jose Boulevard in a Subaru SUV around 6:15 p.m. as two motorcyclists were driving on the same road in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Subaru made a left turn and pulled into the path of the motorcycles, causing one of them to crash into the Subaru’s passenger-side front door.
JSO said that Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded and declared one motorcyclist dead at the scene. The other motorcyclist avoided colliding with the Subaru and was not injured.
The front-seat passenger of the Subaru was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
JSO said that this marks the 34th traffic fatality in Duval County in 2025 and the sixth involving a motorcyclist.
The agency also said northbound San Jose Boulevard will be closed at Loretto Road for an additional hour as crews work to clean up the scene.
