FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – Fleming Island grocery shoppers will soon be able to fill all their produce, dairy, and frozen food needs as Aldi revealed an official opening date of its first store in the city.
The store, 1545 County Road 220, was originally a Winn-Dixie, but has since been converted following Aldi’s acquisition of Southeastern Grocers, Winn-Dixie’s parent company.
To celebrate the Fleming Island location’s grand opening, the first 100 customers will receive a gift bag including a sampling of ALDI-exclusive products and a gift card as part of the ALDI Golden Ticket giveaway program.
“As shoppers look for better ways to stretch their dollar, ALDI is providing Fleming Island with easier access to quality groceries at affordable prices,” said Matt Thon, regional vice president for ALDI. “At our new Fleming Island ALDI store, shoppers will find that every decision we make, from our product selection to store layout, is to provide our customers with the best products at the lowest possible prices of any national grocer.”
The Fleming Island store will officially open on Thursday, June 26, at 8:45 a.m.
Following its opening, the location will open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There are currently nine Aldi locations in Jacksonville, with a 10th opening on Aug. 13 on Old Kings Road, and an additional five locations between Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns counties.
In March 2024, the German grocer bought Jacksonville-based Southeastern Grocers Inc., which operated about 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi, the Jacksonville Daily Record reports.
However, nearly one year later, the company, operating under the new name Southeastern Grocers LLC, bought back nearly 200 stores from Aldi.
The grocer adds that it intends to open 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028.
Aldi’s U.S. headquarters are based in Batavia, Illinois.
