Health experts remind you, the mask is not just to protect yourself, but to protect those working the holiday weekend. Shoppers said the lines were long because stores aren’t letting everyone inside together. TJX aims to have all stores reopened by end of June

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. TJX Cos., the parent company of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Homegoods, hopes to have all of its stores back open by the end of June, the company reported to the SEC on Thursday, according to NBC Boston. TJX closed stores in nine countries along with all of its online shopping sites, distribution centers and offices in mid-March as the coronavirus pandemic was starting to make waves in the U.S. Since May 2, TJX opened approximately 36% of its 4,500 stores worldwide, equating to 1,600 locations reopening as well as four e-commerce sites. The company now hopes to have everything back open by the end of June as it has fully or partially reopened in 25 states, NBC Boston reported.

Pier 1 moves to close all stores, including 6 in the area

Pier 1 operates five stores in the Jacksonville and St. Augustine area and one in Brunswick. Its lenders have agreed to let Pier 1 overdraw its lending facility by $40 million to help it fund the liquidation process. Once a mall staple, Pier 1 sales have slumped in recent years because of growing online competition and shifting consumer habits. It announced in February that it was closing around 450 stores, including all its locations in Canada. The company currently has more than 500 stores down from 1,000 last year.

Publix adding special hours for first responders and health care workers

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – In its latest move in response to the coronavirus outbreak, Publix is now setting aside time for first responders and frontline health care workers to do their grocery shopping. Starting on Thursday, Publix stores and pharmacies will be open to those workers from 8 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and 7 to 8 a.m. on Fridays. These special shopping hours will continue until further notice. The Florida-based grocery store chain has already designated 7 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesdays as senior shopping hours so customers ages 65 and older can get their shopping done. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, individuals over the age of 65 are at increased risk of complications from the coronavirus.

Publix announces senior shopping hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Publix is designating Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, 7 – 8 a.m., as senior shopping hours for customers age 65 and over, the company announced on Thursday. The change in hours will begin Tuesday, March 24, and continue until further notice. Publix Pharmacy will also open at 7 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to serve our senior population.
