Gainesville fire rescue responds to structure fire on UF campus (Gainesville Fire Rescue)
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A multi-million-dollar loss was avoided Tuesday after a fire was put out at the University of Florida.
Around 11:55 a.m., units responded to the Antevy Architecture Building, which is currently under construction, due to reports of a fire on the roof, according to Gainesville Fire Rescue.
Officials said crews found the fire along with various roofing material and four large 40-lb propane cylinders.
A hazmat team was called to assess the propane tanks and other materials.
No injuries were reported.
“Thanks to the early reporting from construction crews and the quick actions of first responders a major fire was prevented and a potential multi-million-dollar loss avoided,” Gainesville Fire Rescue said.
