ORANGE PARK, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said it has arrested a 13-year-old student after she wrote a long message threatening to “bomb” the school and kill multiple students and staff on a bathroom wall.
According to the agency, the student, who attended Lakeside Junior High, named specific individuals, including the school’s resource officer, as those who would be affected by the threatened act of violence.
After an investigation was launched, deputies say they identified the 13-year-old girl as the suspect and obtained a confession from her. They added that they also conducted a behavioral threat assessment at her home and didn’t find any bomb-making materials.
“The act of making a threat to kill is a serious criminal offense,” the sheriff’s office said. “The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Clay County School Board are committed to the safety of all students and threats of violence will not be tolerated.”
The arrest marks the second incident at Lakeside Junior High this week to involve a student threatening violence. On Tuesday, Sheriff Michelle Cook announced that a student had been suspended after threatening to bring a “weapon” to school .
