Man accused of killing mother of two in Sunbeam Road parking lot arrested in Texas: JSO

Randy Campbell, 31, arrested Thursday night in Dallas, police said

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man accused of shooting and killing a mother of two over the weekend was arrested Thursday night in Dallas, Texas.

Cherrish Nunley, 24, was found dead in a parking lot outside of a Chuze Fitness on Sunbeam Road.

Police said they quickly identified Randy Campbell, 31, as the suspect in her killing, and he was taken into custody by Dallas police officers. He will be extradited to Jacksonville once the legal process is completed.

Police said Campbell is accused of shooting Nunley on Nov. 15 in a Mandarin area parking lot. Nunley died at the scene before officers arrived, just weeks before what would’ve been her 25th birthday.

Nunley leaves behind a 5-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old son.

JSO said the case was quickly ruled a homicide by the Medical Examiner’s Office, which led to detectives quickly identifying Campbell as the suspect in this case.

Police said they also worked alongside the State Attorney’s Office and U.S. Marshal Task Force to get a warrant for Campbell’s arrest.

“The US Marshal Task Force helped us track him to Dallas, Texas, where the Dallas Police Department arrested him earlier this week,” police said. “Our hearts go out to Nunley’s family and friends; we’ll work with the State Attorney’s Office to make sure justice is served.”

It’s currently unclear what relationship Nunley and Campbell had, as well as the circumstances that led investigators to link Campbell as the suspect in the case.

Police mentioned that this case is one of the incidents that sparked social media rumors of a serial killer in Jacksonville, and used Campbell’s arrest as an opportunity to further quell those claims.

“Campbell is not a suspect in the other recent homicides in our community,” police said. “Our detectives continue to aggressively investigate the other homicides to bring justice to the victims’ families.”
