Only a handful of holidays affect trash collection in nearly every area county. While most counties also do not have garbage pickup on New Year’s Day, Duval County does.
Depending on your county, the delay could mean everyone is pushed back a day for the rest of the week.

We’ve compiled a county-by-county breakdown of how garbage collection is affected by the holidays.

Duval County
In Duval County, garbage collection schedules are adjusted ONLY for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
- Visit the Residential Waste Collection Schedule lookup page and type in your address for the revised schedule.
Solid waste collections for Jan. 1 will follow a normal schedule.

Atlantic Beach
The New Year’s holiday does not affect solid waste collection service; only Christmas and Thanksgiving do.

St. Johns County
Garbage, recycling, and yard waste will NOT be collected on Jan. 1. Beginning Jan. 2, collections will be delayed one day, with all routes being completed by Jan. 3.
The Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road solid waste scale houses will be closed Jan. 1 and will resume standard operating hours on Jan. 2.
Additionally, residents can download the Recycle Coach app or visit the Solid Waste web page to obtain curbside collection schedules, sign up for alerts, and quickly learn how to properly dispose of different household waste materials.

St. Augustine
Offices for the city of St. Augustine will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of the New Year’s holiday.
All solid waste services will remain on schedule Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

St. Augustine Beach
Thursday’s normal solid waste/recycling collection will be on Friday, Jan. 2.
No brush/special waste collection on Wednesday, Dec. 31. Yard trash/special waste pickup service will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026.
Clay County
There will be no garbage or yard waste collection on New Year’s Day.
Residents with Thursday pickup will be serviced on Friday, and those with Friday pickup will be serviced on Saturday.
The Rosemary Hill Solid Waste Management Facility and the county’s Environmental Convenience Centers will be closed on New Year’s Day.
The administration office will close on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. and remain closed on New Year’s Day.
Green Cove Springs
New Year’s Day 2026: No pick-up on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. All services will be picked up on their next scheduled day.

Orange Park
No pick-up holidays include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. When your collection day falls on/or after a holiday, your collection service will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
Nassau County
Meridian Waste will not provide pick-up on New Year’s Day. Those with pick-ups on Thursday will be serviced on Friday, and those with pick-ups on Friday will be serviced on Saturday.
Fernandina Beach
There will be no pickup service on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Flagler County
Those with Thursday pick-up (New Year’s Day) will have service on Saturday, Jan. 3.
The Hazardous Waste site will be closed on New Year’s Day.

Palm Coast
The city of Palm Coast contracts with FCC Environmental for garbage collection, recycling, yard waste and bulk trash.
No collection will occur on Thursday, Jan. 1.
Thursday’s bulk collection will occur on Monday, Dec. 29.
Thursday’s recycling collection will occur on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Bunnell
New Year’s Day: Grand Reserve residential garbage will be picked up on Thursday, Jan. 1. Commercial dumpsters will be picked up on Friday, Jan. 2. Friday bulk will be picked up as normal.
Putnam County
New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas are county and Waste Pro holidays.
If your pick-up day falls on one of these days, your service will be on a one-day delay, and all other pick-ups that week will fall back one day. (Example: Thursday will be moved to Friday and Friday will be moved to Saturday.)

Baker County
Macclenny is serviced by Meridian Waste.
There will be no pickup service on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
If the holiday occurs on or prior to your scheduled collection day, services will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

Bradford County
Bradford County does not provide curbside pickup, but the county’s solid waste collection sites are closed on county holidays, including Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
If a holiday falls on a Saturday, the county observes it on Friday and is closed on Friday and Saturday. If a holiday falls on Sunday, the county observes it on Monday and is closed Sunday and Monday. More info
Starke
GFL is the solid waste collector for the city of Starke.
There will be no pick-up service on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
If a holiday falls on your service day, your trash will be collected the following day. Routes will be delayed by one day the rest of the week after a holiday.
For example, if your normal collection day is Tuesday and a holiday is on Tuesday, you will be serviced on Wednesday. If a holiday is on Tuesday and your service day is Wednesday, you will be collected on Thursday. Friday collection will be serviced on Saturday.

Columbia County
Columbia County administers the contract for curbside collection through Waste Pro, which provides for once-a-week pickup for household garbage and yard waste.
New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas are Waste Pro holidays.
Garbage collection on these days will be made up with collection falling one day later. Example: Thursday, Jan. 1, New Year’s Day, will be collected on Friday, Jan. 2. Friday’s collection will be on Saturday.

The Winfield Solid Waste Facility will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Union County
GFL collects garbage in Lake Butler.
GFL observes the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
If your normal pick-up day falls on one of those holidays, your trash will be serviced the following day. Routes will be delayed by one day the rest of the week after a holiday. For more on your holiday schedule, click here.

Alachua County
Only six holidays affect collection service:
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
- New Year’s Day
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday (observed)
- Memorial Day
- Fourth of July
Waste will not be collected on these holidays, and all scheduled pickups will be delayed by one (business) day. Collection will return to normal the following week.

Gainesville
Residential curbside collection for garbage, recycling and yard trash will not be picked up on Thursday, but will be picked up on Friday.
Brantley County
The county is serviced by Ryland Environmental.
There will be no collection on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s Day.
Holidays may vary by local office due to contractual obligations, landfill schedules, and other factors.

There will be no pickup on the following holidays:

If your regularly scheduled services fall on Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s Day, your service will occur on the following day. Service will continue to be a day behind for the rest of the week.

Charlton County
The county is serviced by Meridian Waste.
There will be no pickup service on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
If the holiday occurs on or prior to your scheduled collection day, services will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

The Chesser Island Landfill in Folkston is only closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Glynn County
If your normal collection day falls on or after a holiday, your garbage collection will be one day later for the duration of that week. This includes yard debris and recycling services.
So for New Year’s week, those normally with Thursday pick-up days will be picked up on Friday, Jan. 2, and those normally with Friday pick-up days will be picked up on Saturday, Jan. 3.

Ware County
City of Waycross trash collection (Ryland) will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday, Jan. 2.
Please place cans out on Thursday night, as drivers will begin earlier than normal on Friday morning. If carts are not out, Ryland will not return until the next regularly scheduled pickup next week.
