ST. MARYS, Ga. – St. Marys Elementary School will temporarily relocate to the College of Coastal Georgia for a few days in January to complete the removal process for bats found in the school’s buildings.
The school closed on Monday after officials reported an “unexpected safety issue” that prompted the school’s closure on Monday morning.
On Wednesday, Camden County Schools said it continued to work with licensed professionals who were on site completing the removal of bats, but additional time is needed to complete the process.
From Wednesday, Jan. 14, to Friday, Jan. 16, classes would be held at the College of Coastal Georgia at 8001 Lakes Boulevard in Kingsland.
Here’s what people should know about the relocation:
- Students who normally walk to school will be transported to and from St. Marys Elementary School and the College of Coastal Georgia. School hours will remain the same.
- Morning EDP will not be available during this temporary relocation; however, after-school EDP will be offered. Breakfast and lunch will be served, and all students will have scheduled recess.
- Students who do not attend school during the temporary relocation will receive an excused absence. Make-up work will be provided when students return after the holiday weekend on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. We apologize for any inconvenience this situation may cause and appreciate the patience and understanding of our families as we work to ensure a safe learning environment,” the district said in a post on social media.
