2 men killed after car strikes FDOT sign, overturns, hits overhead sign support on I-10 near Stockton Street: FHP

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – Two men were killed in an overnight crash on Interstate 10 in Duval County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the single-vehicle crash happened around 11:51 p.m. on Tuesday near Stockton Street.

According to FHP, a 45-year-old man from Jacksonville was driving a 2016 Lexus sedan in the left travel lane, but then he switched lanes to the right and veered off the roadway.

Troopers said the man struck a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) sign as the car began to overturn, and then crashed into an overhead sign support.

According to the FHP report, the driver was thrown from the car “due to not utilizing his seatbelt.”

He died at the scene.

His passenger, a 31-year-old man from Jacksonville, also died at the scene.

According to the FHP report, the passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
