JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville will officially kick off Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend on Friday with a long-standing tradition that brings the community together—the Dr. MLK Jr. Breakfast.
Leaders, students, and neighbors will gather to honor King’s life, his legacy, and the work that continues today.

The 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast will be held at the Prime F. Osborn Convention Center, bringing together city leaders, faith leaders, educators, and families from across Jacksonville to honor Dr. King’s life and legacy.
The program will focus not just on remembering King, but on how his message of courage, service, and love still applies today.
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan is expected to speak during the program.
Also, Tomorrow’s Leaders—local students from elementary, middle, and high schools will be honored for their leadership, creativity, and community service.
They will be recognized through their essays, artwork, and poetry, all inspired by King’s teachings.
“Every year we choose a theme that’s based on a key quote, and this year’s quote is, “When courage leads, love follows.” That is something we all take seriously. You will see it through our Tomorrow’s Leaders program," Alex Alston, Executive Director of the Office of Sports and Entertainment for the City of Jacksonville, said.
