JACKSONVILLE, Fla – Two military veterans are transitioning from serving overseas to serving patients here at home.

Dr. Kyle Mikals and Dr. Samantha Mikals have returned to Jacksonville and launched Jacksonville Concierge Medicine, a relationship-based practice designed for people with busy schedules.

According to the practice, the model includes home or office visits, longer appointment times, and direct access to the doctors by text or phone — to deliver personalized care and help patients address concerns before they become serious.

The doctors say they are currently serving patients in Jacksonville’s Southside, the Beaches, and Nocatee.

From military medicine to medical entrepreneurship

After years in military medicine, the Mikalses said they learned to adapt quickly and solve problems with limited resources — lessons they now apply as health care entrepreneurs.

“In the military, there’s a lot of reinventing the wheel, needing to be creative to get projects completed and get things to happen, especially for patients, especially overseas,” Dr. Samantha Mikals said. “And I think that for me, as more of the creative artist part of our duo, I’m good at pivoting, thinking on my feet, making up new solutions, innovating, and then making the decision and just going.”

Dr. Kyle Mikals said the structure and discipline of the military taught him how to build clear systems — something he believes is essential as they build and grow their practice.

“So I learned a lot about making policies and procedures in the military. It’s a big thing, especially since we move around from place to place,” he said. “When you’re there for three years at a time, I was really good at making policies in terms of how the clinics were operating. That way, we had a nice standardized procedure in place.”

Building community trust

As veteran entrepreneurs, the Mikalses say building trust and meeting patients where they are is central to their approach.

Their practice combines internal medicine, lifestyle medicine, ENT care and facial aesthetics — and they say patient education is part of the mission.

“As I’m establishing myself in the community, people are finding out and hearing about it. I also just like to give advice — you know, especially skin care,” Dr. Samantha Mikals said. “I meet a lot of women and a lot of people don’t know what the basics are to have nice, healthy skin, which is the cheapest step one before you do any of the other treatments.”

What’s next

Looking ahead, the Mikalses say they hope to expand — potentially adding more doctors and moving into a dedicated clinic space — while maintaining the personalized, patient-focused care they say reflects their commitment to service.
