VERO BEACH, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference Friday morning to talk about the state’s “America 250″ celebrations that are planned for this year.
DeSantis said as part of the celebrations, Florida will recognize George Washington’s birthday, not just federally, but as a state holiday, and added that state offices will be closed on that day. Moreover, there will be a series of events that weekend to celebrate Washington’s birthday.
DeSantis said the state is also partnering with NASCAR to sponsor the “America 250 Florida Duel” in Daytona Beach.
“It’s going to be an exciting race. The start of speed week, to celebrate, Florida’s rich history,” DeSantis said.
The race will take place on Feb. 13.
