ST. MARYS, Ga. – The Kingsland Police Department said it has apprehended the suspect who was accused of fleeing from them earlier, which prompted the St. Marys Police Department to urge residents to stay inside and lock their doors as a safety precaution.
“More details and information will be released later on, since this is still an active and ongoing investigation,” Kingsland police said. “Thank you for all the help and support to our partners agencies to include Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Camden County GA , St. Marys Police Department, Department of Natural Resources, Georgia Bureau or Investigations. Thank you to all who assisted us, especially our citizens and community members."

Earlier in the day, the St. Marys Police Department said it was searching for a man accused of fleeing from the Kingsland Police Department and was last seen in the area of Winding Road and Brooklet Circle.
The agency described the man as a “heavier Black male” and had asked residents to stay inside and lock their doors as a precautionary measure.
As a result of the search, Sugarmill Elementary was briefly placed on lockdown, police said.
