Police said that Ta’Naiya Gallon, 26, and Toni Owens, 23, were arrested on Thursday, one day after officers received reports of a battery involving a resident at The Canopy, located at 213 NW Gleason Drive.

The incident in question happened around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police said.

When officers arrived at the assisted living facility, management informed them that it had reviewed security camera footage, which showed Gallon and Owens committing the alleged abuse.

Police then reviewed the footage, collected sworn written statements from management, and gathered documentation showing the facility engaged in employee training on elder abuse prevention and de-escalation, along with overall facility guidelines.

“Abuse of an elderly resident is unacceptable and will be addressed with the full weight of the criminal justice process,” said Chief of Police Gerald Butler. “Our department is committed to protecting our most vulnerable citizens, and we appreciate the cooperation of the facility and our partners in ensuring these allegations were reported, documented, and investigated thoroughly.”
