CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Neighbors are shaken up after a man was found dead with stab wounds in an Orange Park Winn-Dixie parking lot on Monday.
Deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office found Billy Clark Foster, 38, suffering from multiple stab wounds inside a car parked at the store on Blanding Boulevard.
Investigators learned that the man was involved in an altercation in the parking lot of the Cypress Pointe Apartment Complex on Knight Boxx Road, which is across the street from the Winn-Dixie.
Deputies said Foster drove to the Winn-Dixie parking lot to seek help.
He was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
A couple who didn’t want to be identified said this is unsettling.
“It happens more often than we’d like,” they said. “We haven’t been here very long, since May, but there was a shooting here a couple of months ago, too.”
There’s an interesting dynamic of people who are living in apartments who expressed concern, but longtime homeowners said this is unusual and this part of South Orange Park is quiet.
“I feel like it’s always been safe,” Patrick Reginold said. “We’ve been here 20, 25 years.”
He said he doesn’t feel unsafe in Clay County and it does surprise him that people in apartments say that they feel unsafe.
“I always feel like Clay County as far as I’m concerned, has been very quiet,” Reginold said.
The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information on this incident, you’re urged to call the sheriff’s office at 904-264-6512 and refer to case number 202600229.
