100+ acre brush fire sparked in Baker County; residents who evacuated can return home by 7 p.m., officials say

Baker County Fire Rescue says all residents who were forced to evacuate can return home by 7 p.m.

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said on Wednesday it is monitoring a brush fire that’s over 100 acres in the area of I-10 at MM329 in Baker County.

Baker County Fire Rescue said the areas of Noah Davis and Butcher Road were under mandatory evacuation, but in an update said that residents in those areas can return home by 7 p.m.

Officials added that no structures have been burned, and multiple agencies were working to protect the nearby homes.

FHP said that the fire is believed to have begun when an ember from a 1.5 acre fire was blown by northerly winds near I-10, around the areas of US-90 and Cowpen Road.

Drivers are asked to use caution in the area as visibility can deteriorate due to the heavy smoke.

Smoke signs will be placed on both northbound and southbound sides of US-1 North Kings Road.

“Please beware of any heavy duty equipment and vehicles still in the area and any hot spots that may still be in the area,” the agency said.
