ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Walmart’s Supercenter in the Durbin Park area of Northern St. Johns County is planning a significant expansion to increase its online grocery shopping capacity by approximately 9,000 square feet.
Our news partners at the Jacksonville Daily Record report that the 195,000-square-foot store, located at 845 Durbin Pavilion Drive in The Pavilion at Durbin Park shopping center, submitted a permit application to St. Johns County on Feb. 4, with the Development Review Committee set to discuss the project on March 4.

The expansion, labeled “Proposed OPD Expansion” in the project documents, will be located at the northernmost end of the Supercenter. OPD stands for online pickup and delivery, reflecting Walmart’s broader 2024 initiative to remodel and expand 650 stores across 47 states and Puerto Rico.
This effort aims to meet growing demand for online orders by enhancing pickup and delivery services.
Walmart, the largest grocery chain in the U.S. with over 4,600 stores, has seen a surge in e-commerce sales, which increased 27% in its fiscal 2026 third quarter.
The company recently became the first retailer to surpass $1 trillion in market capitalization, driven by its strategy to combine low prices with expanded online shopping convenience.
In addition to the Durbin Park expansion, Walmart is also developing a new Supercenter at World Commerce Center in St. Johns County, with a building permit issued for the 179,708-square-foot store on Jan. 21.
