JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died Monday morning after being shot multiple times inside a laundromat in Northwest Jacksonville, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sergeant Latasha Thompson said officers responded to a reported shooting around 8 a.m. at a laundromat on Soutel Drive, near New Kings Road.
When first responders arrived, they found a 61-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
According to JSO, the man died at the scene.
Thompson said the suspect was seen leaving the area in an unknown direction. He was wearing dark clothing and white shoes.
Detectives with the JSO homicide and crime scene units were still in the process of gathering evidence to determine what led to the shooting and the relationship of those involved.
One nearby resident said the scene was shocking.
“I saw the body laying there and I thought it was someone who was maybe asleep or something”
Online commenters reacted with frustration and fear after what several people described as a violent weekend across Jacksonville.
One commenter wrote, “Can’t even do your laundry safely...”
Another online commenter wrote: “Not acceptable.”
A bystander called for residents to look out for one another.
“We just have to look out for one another and be vigilant and pay attention.”
Police said detectives were also interviewing witnesses.
