JSO said the incident that escalated into the deadly confrontation began around 11:15 p.m. on Feb. 11 as a stolen car investigation when officers, who were in an unmarked car, spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen.
According to investigators, the officers recognized Jones driving as the same man who had been seen driving that same stolen vehicle -- with a different license plate -- two weeks earlier. Police said Jones managed to get away during that incident, and the officers made note that he had a firearm at the time.

Officers followed the vehicle until Jones parked it in the driveway of a home on Kaleel Road. He jumped out of the vehicle and started running away from the officers.
The video shows the intense moment when the officer was chasing Jones and commanding him to stop.
“Show me your [expletive] hands,” one officer is heard yelling.
“Hey, he’s running away!”
JSO said Jones pulled out a gun, but that moment is not capturedin the video as you do not see him running from police.
Moments later, the video shows the officers standing over a fence, shooting at Jones.
At least five shots go off before one of the officers is heard saying, “Don’t reach for that gun!”
The officers fire more shots. You can hear what appears to be Jones screaming.
The entire video shows perspectives from both officers’ body cameras.
With guns still drawn, the officers approached Jones as he lay on the ground, removed a silver gun from him and handcuffed him.
Jones died in the scene.
