Doctor explains common household burn causes, prevention tips for parents

Microwaves, tablecloths and placemats are responsible for causing the most common burns among children in our area.

According to doctors are Wolfson Children’s Hospital, soups and noodles heated in a microwave cause far more burns in young kids removing them from the microwave than parents may even realize.

Burns like these, that involve scalding, are the most frequent reasons a child is rushed to the hospital. Another reason young children suffer serious burns, is they pull a tablecloth or placemat that has hot food on it, and it spills.

Burns are 100% preventable and when they happen parents often make the mistake of putting ice on a burn.

Dr. Sarah Fernandez, a physician at Wolfson Children’s hospital, explains other common reasons children suffer burns at home, and the mistakes parents make when trying to relieve the pain as they take their child to E.R.
