MIAMI, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said a trooper and a woman were hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting early Saturday on State Road 836 in Miami.
At about 5:30 a.m., FHP said troopers responded to reports of a reckless driver traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes near NW 107th Avenue in Miami-Dade County.

A trooper located the vehicle in the grassy center median and made contact with a woman driver who had a young child in the car, the agency said.
While the trooper was interacting with the woman, FHP said she brandished a knife and stabbed the trooper in the head, neck and shoulder. The trooper discharged his firearm and struck the woman, the agency said.
Both the trooper and the woman were taken to HCA Kendall Trauma for treatment, FHP said. The agency later determined the woman had active arrest warrants for child neglect, child abuse and fleeing and eluding law enforcement. The Department of Children and Families has taken the child into its care, the agency said.
Officials said the woman will be booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail once she is medically released. Because the case remains an active criminal investigation, the agency said it will not provide further comment. As is standard, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is conducting a review of the trooper’s use of force, the FHP said.
