St. Johns County deputies said Barrios came to the Walgreens to confront his girlfriend and a man he believed she was in a relationship with.

After the shooting, deputies said he drove away in a BMW, crossed county lines and was spotted in Nassau County by a local deputy.

Deputies attempted to stop Barrios along U.S. 1 near Sauls Road, but he sped off, and a chase ensued.

He crashed the vehicle on County Road 108 and Middle Road, ditched the car and ran into the woods.

Deputies searched for Barrios for nearly three hours before they found him, and he was taken into custody.

“Our special response team and our K9 Rex were tracking through kind of a trail through the woods, and observed an individual then he gave himself up," Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said.

Leeper said his primary concern was protecting the community from a potentially armed and dangerous person.

"I wanted to make sure that we contained that area so he wouldn’t get away," Leeper said.

Barrios faces several charges in Nassau County and remains in jail until he is extradited to St. Johns County, where he’s also expected to face homicide charges.
