JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a man was killed Sunday night in what police described as a road-rage shootout on Edgewood Avenue West and I-95, neighbors shared their concerns with News4JAX about the issues brought into their area by those who don’t live there.

According to police, two drivers in a road-rage confrontation got out of their vehicles around 8:20 p.m. on the northbound ramp to I-95 off Edgewood Avenue and shot at each other.

One driver died at the scene, and the other sped away from the Lake Forest area, leaving investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office searching for a small silver SUV.

“When I came up to the store, I saw people up here saying one of their loved ones was up in the street dead,” neighbor Mike Ross said, adding that he recognized the victim from his neighborhood. “I used to see the guy up here a lot at the store. ... Don’t know him personally. … Very sad, because what I know he was married. I don’t know if he was trying to go home or not."

Locals told News4JAX their neighborhoods are quiet, but because they’re right by the interstate, thousands of cars pass through daily, many to get gas at the stations off the highway.

They say that’s where problems come from.

“Not too much happens here with the neighborhood people.  Most of these incidents are from people that don’t even live in this area,” Ross said.

No other vehicles were involved or affected during the incident.

Police said this appears to be an isolated incident, but they must locate the driver of the SUV to continue their investigation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500.
