JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – If you’re coming to Downtown Jacksonville, you will likely notice all the construction, which is totally revamping the stadium district.

The new Jaguars executive office buildings, called One Tower Court, just opened this week, the first multi-story office building constructed downtown in several years.

Mayor Donna Deegan said the progress shows that Jacksonville has finally broken its stereotype of being a city of renderings that never happened.

“All you have to do is look around and see all the cranes in the air. We are no longer a city of renderings. We are on our way,” Deegan said at the One Tower Court grand opening.

Jaguars President Mark Lamping said the key to turning that corner has been the people who believe in the projects.

“Behind all these stories, there’s someone who really believes in the cause. In this case, it’s the Khan family who has chosen to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Downtown Jacksonville when not everyone had that same level of belief,” Lamping said of the Jaguars’ owner.

The Stadium of the Future is still in the works, but the Jags pointed out that they needed to finish construction on One Tower Court before they could rebuild the stadium, so all the team’s employees would have somewhere to go.

Just blocks north of the stadium district, the historic Eastside neighborhood will also benefit from all the changes Downtown through the Community Benefits Agreement that was part of the Jaguars’ stadium deal.
