JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released bodycam footage that captured the deadly shooting of a man wanted in connection with a separate deadly Westside shooting that happened in April.

On April 22, police responded to a home on Pond View Drive to arrest 53-year-old Robert Phillips. Phillips was accused in a shooting that left a woman dead and a man seriously injured on Susie Street that happened earlier that day.

JSO said he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft as well.

According to the police, investigators sat outside the home for hours until they saw Phillips leave and get into his car.

The bodycam video begins when officers block in Phillips’ car at the intersection of Julington Creek Road and Sand Ridge Road. JSO said officers saw Phillips pull out a gun and fire two shots at them.

In the video, you see an officer immediately exit his patrol car and shoot several shots at Phillips.

Other angles showed that a total of five officers began shooting. Phillips opened the car door and fell to the ground with the gun also falling underneath him.

The video also showed the officers handcuffing Phillips and rendering aid, but he died on the scene.

The State Attorney’s Office is investigating, and an internal review will be conducted to ensure the officers acted within policy.
