NAVAL STATION MAYPORT, Fla. – Mayor Donna Deegan on Friday formally named one of VUP-19’s MQ-4C Tritons “Spirit of Jacksonville” to honor the longstanding support and partnership between Jacksonville and the military.
VUP-19, one of eight squadrons under Patrol and Reconnaissance Wing Eleven, is the Navy’s first unmanned maritime patrol squadron. It is homeported at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida, with a detachment at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, and multiple globally dispersed detachment sites. Its MQ-4C Triton provides the Navy’s newest intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance maritime patrol asset to the fleet.

“For 87 years and counting, there has been an unbreakable bond between the U.S. Navy and Jacksonville. Today’s naming ceremony exemplifies that partnership. We’re a city proud of our military heritage, proud of the men and women who serve, and proud to stand beside the families who support them every single day,” Deegan said.
