Trump to meet Xi in Beijing as China steps up role in Iran diplomacy

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is set to travel to Beijing later this week and meet with China’s President Xi Jinping. The meeting takes on added importance because Beijing’s profile in international diplomacy has been on the rise.

While Beijing is not an official mediator in the Iran war, all parties — including Washington and Tehran — said it has played an important role in efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

Scott Kennedy, senior adviser and trustee chair in Chinese Business and Economics at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, joined News4JAX anchor Bruce Hamilton on The Morning Show to discuss the implications of the meeting of the two world leaders.
