FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Deputies with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office arrested two juveniles after an investigation into a car burglary led to the recovery of stolen fishing poles, the office said.

Deputies responded May 3 to the Union Court area after a resident reported multiple custom fishing poles were taken from an unlocked pickup parked in a driveway. The poles were valued at $1,550, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives developed a suspect vehicle after viewing a Snapchat video that appeared to show the stolen poles and determined the vehicle was in the Union Court area the night of the burglary, the office said.

On May 5, detectives interviewed a 15-year-old of Bunnell, and a 12-year-old from Palm Coast with their mothers present. Detectives recovered the fishing poles from locations associated with the juveniles and returned them to the victim.

Both juveniles were arrested May 13 on juvenile arrest orders charging burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and grand theft. They were taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for processing and then transferred to the Volusia County Department of Juvenile Justice without incident, the sheriff’s office said.

“These juveniles went carhopping and turned a neighborhood into their hunting ground fishing hole, but our deputies and detectives reeled in the facts — from social media and surveillance video to the recovery of stolen property and the arrests,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “If you leave your vehicle unlocked, you’re practically baiting thieves, so lock your car doors and take valuables inside. Hopefully, these juveniles will learn a lesson and get back on the right track.”
