YULEE, Fla. – Nassau County Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed into a burning home to rescue a resident while responding to an unrelated call on May 26.

Deputies arrived at the home on Red Holly Place in Yulee and entered the smoke-filled home without hesitation. They found the homeowner in the backyard and quickly escorted him to safety.

Nassau County Fire Rescue arrived and rescued a dog and extinguished the fire, which was contained to the kitchen.

“Our deputies are trained to respond when people need help the most, and that’s exactly what they did in this situation,” Sheriff Bill Leeper stated. “Their courage, quick thinking, and commitment to protecting others helped bring this incident to a safe conclusion. I am incredibly proud of their actions.”
